Dean Machado, Principal, Head Portfolio Manager

 

Mr. Machado has over 19 years of industry experience and is currently the Head Portfolio Manager at the General Partner.  Prior to joining the General Partner, Mr. Machado was a co-founder and co-portfolio manager of Akita Capital, a long/short equity hedge fund.  Akita Capital was a client of Mr. Frommer during his tenures at both RBC and Carlin.  Prior to founding Akita Capital, Mr. Machado was a portfolio manager for the Proprietary Trading Group at Commerzbank Capital Markets, where he created and ran the U.S. long/short equity portfolio.  Prior to joining Commerzbank, Mr. Machado was a Managing Director at Centurion Investment Group, a long/short equity hedge fund, where he was responsible for long and short investment idea generation and analysis covering a variety of industries.  Prior to joining Centurion, Mr. Machado was a Managing Director at Guard Hill Capital, a special situations/merger arbitrage hedge fund.  Mr. Machado and Mr. Frommer were among the founding partners of Guard Hill Capital and worked together as analyst and trader there for a number of years.  Throughout Mr. Machado’s career on the buy-side, he was covered by Alan Portnoi on the sell-side starting from the time when Mr. Portnoi was a salesperson at Bear Stearns to the time when he ran the U.S. Event-Driven Trading Desk at RBC.  Mr. Machado began his career in the early 1990s at Bankers Trust Company as an analyst in the Global Investment Banking Group where he initially specialized in M&A and restructuring advisory, and subsequently became an associate in the Principal Investing Group, where he focused on distressed, private equity, and merger arbitrage investing.  Messieurs Machado and Frommer began their personal and professional relationship in 1993 while at Bankers Trust.  Mr. Machado graduated magna cum laudefrom New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business with a B.S. degree in Finance and International Business.
